Third 2010 Climb roars off on June 20

Leg Three of the 2010 Hill Climb Series flags off on Sunday June 20 in San Fernando, La Union. This round will also serve as the final leg of the 2010 North Star Series. Regular entries (without surcharge) close at 12-noon on Wednesday, June 16.

As in the previous two rounds, this Sunday’s hill climb will be run in the zigzag foothills of Barangay Pias, nine kilometers east of San Fernando city center, in the vicinity of historic Bacsil Ridge. These foothills served as the last line of defense by the retreating Japanese Imperial Army toward the end of WWII before they were overrun by Filipino forces in March 1945.

The HCCP again expects a full entry list of sixty competitors, with the fast growing number of entries from La Union close to equaling the 30-plus registrants from Baguio/Benguet. Historically, the organizers have needed to limit the number of entries to 60 to ensure that all competitors get the designated two or three heats to race their powerful road machines up the twisty course.

The Hill Climb Club of the Philippines has six events scheduled for this year, with the first three meets making up the 2010 North Star Series. After the June 20 race in La Union, this quick-paced and exhilarating sport will move to the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Bataan.
