Round Two of the 2010 Hill Climb Series will be held on Sunday May 30 in San Fernando, La Union
HCCP officials confirmed this morning that Round Two of the 2010 Hill Climb Series will be held on Sunday May 30 in San Fernando, La Union. Originally scheduled for April 11, the second in a series of six events was re-scheduled for the last Sunday of May.
This round will have two sections of road on which the timed runs will be conducted. Competitors will be allowed two heats in each of these twisty sections of road (stages) in Barangay Bacsil and Barangay Pias in the vicinity of historic Bacsil Ridge located nine kilometers east of San Fernando.
These foothills served as the last bastion of the retreating Japanese Imperial Army toward the end of WWII. They were overrun by Filipino forces in March 1945 in the Battle of Bacsil Ridge that served as a turning point of the anti-Japanese campaign and led to the much heralded Filipino victory in Bessang Pass four months after.
Another battle will rage on May 30 as competitors from Manila, Baguio and La Union with their powerful road machines converge on Bacsil Ridge. Organizers expect the number of entries to surpass the 39 registrants in Round One.
