2008 Series to feature new regulations and classes

THE Hill Climb Club of the Philippines has announced that the 2008 Series will feature new regulations that will include a new class structure after thorough studies of the entries received in last year’s series.

It will be remembered that the 2007 edition saw drivers race for honors in four categories aside from the coveted National Hill Climb Driver of the Year Award over three rounds, which were held in Talisay, Batangas on April 2; Morong, Bataan on April 28; and Mount Samat on May 19.

Carlos Anton dominated Rounds 1 and 2, while Jan de la Merced took the overall victory in Round 3. Emerging as class winners were Lito Ignacio in Group 1, Vin Santos in Group 2, Carlos Anton in Group 3 and David Tanael in the Historic Class. Anton also became the sport’s first official Hill Climb Driver of the Year.

According to Hill Climb Club of the Philippines president, Blue Reyna, the 2008 regulations are in the final stages of completion and will be released very soon, following extensive consultations with the FIA, AAP and local competitors.

Reyna also revealed that the six rounds scheduled for this season will cover only four weekends. Two rounds will be held in Batangas while the other four will be run in the provinces of Bataan, Zambales and Benguet.

This year’s Hill Climb Club membership fee of P3,000 will include the cost of a club license. However, an AAP competition license will still be required for those who intend to compete for national championship points.

As in the past, the competitors’ briefing and scrutineering will be held on the same day at a common venue. Members and interested parties are advised to check the HCCP website at www.hillclimbclub.com for more information.
