Hill Climb schedule and membership campaign bared

THE Hill Climb Club of the Philippines (HCCP) recently announced its 2007 race schedule and that it is now accepting members.

The 2007 Hill Climb Series, which is sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP)—the national sporting authority for motorsports in the country and supported by The Mint Bar and Bistro, will comprise three rounds to be held on March 31, April 28 and May 19 in Cavite, Laguna and Zambales, respectively, and Driver Briefings will be held before each event.

The format involves a race against the clock on a closed section of road that will be closed to traffic on race day. Competing drivers and their vehicles will be flagged off one at a time and they will negotiate the course which features a constant uphill gradient dotted with various corners that will put their driving skills to the test. Further adding to the challenge is the fact that the route will be unknown to the participants until the day of the race and that they will be required to drive solo, that is, without the help of a navigator.

Vehicles will be classified into four categories: 1600 cc and below; and 1601 cc to 1999 cc; 2000 cc and above; and Historic Cars. A factor of 1.5 will be applied to engines with forced induction systems such as turbo- and superchargers.

Only HCCP members with valid AAP competition licenses for hill climbing will be eligible to compete in the series. Interested parties may contact the HCCP Secretariat at 833-8386.
